OGUN GOVT REITERATES COMMITMENT TO THE PROMOTION OF CULTURE
The Ogun State Government has reiterated its commitment to continually promote cultural festivals and traditions peculiar to the state to broaden the economy, create employment for teeming youths, as well as ensure that such traditions do not go into extinction.
The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Culture and Tourism in the State, Mrs Adebisi Ogunde stated this in an interview at the climbing of the rock tagged “Olumo Festival” to commemorate the 2023 Lisabi Day, held at the Olumo Rock Tourist Complex, Ikija, Abeokuta.
Mrs Ogunde re-assured that the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, who is an epitome of culture, is not resting on his oars to ensure that Ogun State is a tourist destination of choice in the country, hence, his continuous promotion of different cultural festivals across the State.
She called on the State’s indigenes both at home and abroad to join hands with the government in the promotion of culture and traditions, noting that
no nation can excel without the inclusion of its culture and tourism parameters.
Delivering his speech, the Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, said since the inception of the ancient town of Egbaland in 1830, it has been consistent in celebrating its culture and traditions, which made it one of the best in sustaining Yoruba Culture in Egbaland.
He maintained that one of the beauties of sustaining Yoruba culture is the annual celebration of the Lisabi Festival, adding that the Egba people have made a great impact in sustaining the core culture and tradition of the Yoruba race.
Iba Adams urged other traditional rulers to cultivate the habit of celebrating their festivals as a way of sustaining the cultural identity of the Yoruba race.
Giving his royal message, the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba, Dr Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, said the significance of the Festival is to celebrate our past heroes who fought for the emancipation of Egbaland as well as offer prayers for peace, unity and progress for the state and country at large, while imploring the youths to keep the history of past heroes and emulate some of the great feats the heroes performed.
The festival featured prayers on the topmost of the rock and cultural displays by different traditional religious groups.
